Falls are a major concern in healthcare settings, especially for older adults, as they can lead to serious injuries. Fall prevention for seniors is essential to improving patient safety, particularly in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and other healthcare environments. This journal article examines a fall prevention program aimed at reducing falls in dementia patients, with a focus on strategies that address fall risks in elderly populations. A key part of the program is the Oxehealth platform, which helps monitor patients in real-time and supports personalized care plans to address fall risks quickly.
The study shows positive results, with a 48% reduction in nighttime falls (P < 0.01), a 49% reduction in paramedic visits (p < 0.2), and a 68% reduction in A&E/ED admissions (p < 0.02). Additionally, moderate severity falls decreased by 82%, and enhanced one-to-one observation hours were reduced by 71%. These findings highlight the importance of fall injury prevention and show how digital tools like the Oxehealth platform can play a key role in fall prevention programs, ultimately improving fall safety and patient outcomes in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
