Patricia Cargill, Chair of the Patient Partnership Group of Nottingham University Hospitals and member of the Oxehealth Advisory Board, is among those who have been recognised on the New Year's Honours list for 2023 for services to NHS patients.
She will be awarded a British Empire Medal, or BEM, and has been a "driving force" at Nottingham University Hospitals, working passionately to improve health care for patients.
Quoted in an article from the Nottingham Post, Ms Cargill said: "It's a voluntary position but I became involved through the NHS. I had a son with severe complex needs, he had various disabilities and he has now passed - he was a star.
"I think it was because of that care that he was given meant I wanted to give something back. So I started on some of the patient groups and then became a member of the Patient Partnership Group. It is such a privilege to be Chair with such fantastic people in that group from all different walks of life and who want to give back exactly the same amount as myself."
