We are excited to share that - together with our partners at Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (EPUT) - we have been selected as finalists for the Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) Innovate Awards 2022.
According to the AHSN, the entries were of a very high standard with 194 entries competing across ten categories, and judges evaluating them commented on the impressive and inspirational work taking place.
Our submission - Adopting new non-intrusive monitoring technology to improve safety and care quality on mental health inpatient wards - was entered into the Enabling Safer Systems of Care Through Innovation category.
Safety challenges in NHS mental health hospitals are significant. EPUT partnered with Oxehealth to improve safety on their inpatient mental health wards by implementing Oxevision.
An impact evaluation of four wards showed that Oxevision helped staff to markedly improve safety. For example, after 6-16 months of use self-harm incidents reduced across all wards - by 37-47%. Feedback from patients and staff was positive and financial savings were delivered.
The results led to Oxevision being rolled out further within the trust - it is now supporting care at EPUT in 422 rooms, spanning multiple care pathways and geographies.
The winners will be announced at an award ceremony in London on Thursday 29th September.
